A small step to bring two different communities closer to the Society

Mumbai, 16th August 2021: On the occasion of India’s 75th Independence Day, Atulya Foundation, the CSR arm of Capital India, a BSE listed India-focused; Technology enabled SME Finance Platform, conducted a Tree plantation drive with the Transgender specially-abled communities, in order to break all the taboos and stereotypes, people have in their mind. The foundation conducted a tree plantation drive and planted 75 saplings across various locations to mark 75 years of independence. The foundation has pledged to prevent & maintain the plants until they are self-sustainable.

The saplings were planted with the transgender community in association with ‘Give me Trees’ trust, in the Sorkha village of Noida. Capital India volunteer, Karishma said, “Although I had participated in the tree plantation drives many a times, this was a whole new experience. She further shared, “Although I was a bit hesitant to meet the community members because of the preconceived notions, but sooner did the interaction start, the transgenders of Basera Smajaik Sansthan made me feel like I was meeting any other person. This would be one of the memories I shall cherish throughout my life”.

A similar kind of feedback was shared by the volunteers in the Mumbai plantation drive. Amit, volunteer of Mumbai plantation drive quoted “As I saw the struggles faced by people with physical and mental disability, I realized that the problems in our lives are so small and real struggle lies within communities like these. I am happy to be a part of the drive and those who missed surely missed an experience of a lifetime”.

The tree plantation drive in Mumbai was organized with Sangopita, an NGO which is a shelter for people with special needs.  Saplings were planted by the Capital India volunteers along with special needs community members in Mumbai. The plantation drive with these communities was a sincere effort by the organization to create a sense of inclusion among its employees and the community members.

Apart from the tree plantation drive, Atulya foundation has signed an MOU with ‘Say Trees’ to plant 1000 trees in a village of Haryana over a period of 3 years with the farmers to provide them extra source of income on natural farming.
