IATO Run for Responsible Tourism

The 37th IATO Annual Convention was held in Lucknow from December 16-19, 2022. Yogi Adityanath attended as the Chief Guest during the Valedictory Session held on December 18 at the Centrum Hotel, Lucknow where he talked about the developmental plans of UP Govt. He gave more emphasis on the safety and security of tourists and assured that Uttar Pradesh is today the safest state in India for the tourists. Dayashankar Singh, Minister for Transport, UP; Arun Kumar Saxena, Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, UP; and Mukesh Kumar Meshram were also present at the Valedictory Session. 

IATO Run for Responsible Tourism was introduced in 2012 with an aim to promote awareness and action on environmental issues combined with the excitement and challenge of a marathon race with focus on sustainable and responsible tourism practices. This whilst providing runners with a unique and meaningful experience. It has been a successful stint of 10 years till 2022 with active participation of each member bracing the winter chill and coming out in large numbers to show their support and belief in promoting Responsible Tourism. 

Under the dynamic leadership of the IATO President – Mr Rajiv Mehra and the Vice President and Convention Chairman Mr Ravi Gosain, IATO for the year 2022, conducted a Green Marathon focusing on sustainability and environmental protection. All eco-friendly materials were used for the entire event including the Event Signage, Marketing materials, zero usage of automobiles in managing the event. The registrations were done online with zero paper usage which resulted in saving 600 plus papers. No plastic was used and the entire marathon kit had Eco-friendly materials.

37th IATO Convention Run for Responsible Tourism, 2022 had received a whopping 620 registrations and Run Committee includes Mr P. Vijaysarthi, Dr. Manoj Matta and Mr Wasim Sheikh, who is conducting this on ground since incepetion. The Event has now its own prominence amongst its members who look forward to participating and supporting it. Their goal is to keep every convention interactive for its members and through this initiative combined with first step towards eco-friendly event is only the beginning. They will be undertaking many such meaningful initiatives in coming years to ensure the positive impacts on the environment and creating an equitable future for all.
