Sparsh Ganga helps reduce people’s pain during COVID-19

Sparsh Ganga is a non-profitable initiative started in 2008 at Rishikesh, Uttrakhand with a motive to rejuvenate river Ganga and its tributaries. Led by a young, dynamic leader Arushi Nishank, Sparsh Ganga has played an important role in easing the pain of poor during COVID -19 and helping the warriors of COVID and soldiers of the country by providing safety masks.

The Covid-19 pandemic has badly hit India and the whole world. To fight the pandemic, the poor people need to be given safety masks, sanitize and other health-care facilities which are beyond the reach of the common masses. Sparsh Ganga team and its volunteer have been very active since January 2020 in spreading awareness to keep people safe from the Virus and helping the people by giving food and health care and safety equipment like handmade khadi masks, gloves, sanitizer etc. “We have distributed food to more than 20,000 people. Every day our teams are distributing foods to more than 1000 needy people in different parts of India. Our voluntee are providing online counselling to the families affected by the Corona virus and also guiding college students in their studies. Sparsh Ganga has also provided 11000 handmade Khadi masks called ‘Raksha Kawach,’ to the soldiers serving at the borders,” said Arushi Nishank, the Chairperson of Sparsh Ganga.

She added, “Our teams have already stitched more than 20000 khadi masks and distributed needy people in different cities of India, esp. in Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dehradoon and Roorkee in Uttrakhand, Mandi in Himachal, Varanasi in UP and many parts of Delhi.” In last twelve years, under the able guidance of Arushi Nishank, various awakening programs like Sensitization Campaigns, Cyclothon from Rishikesh, Triveni Ghat to Haridwar, VIP Ghat, Water Conservation & Yamuna River cleaning programs, etc. have been conducted with mass public support. Sparsh Ganga Prehri Maha Abhiyan has achieved recognition in Golden Book of Records for ‘largest signature drive for creating voluntee to keep the river clean’. Namami Gange, National Mission for Clean Ganga, recognizes Sparsh Ganga as ‘Ganga Heroes’. “We feel proud to say that today, Sparsh Ganga is a family of more than 5 lakh Volunteers, mentors and team leaders all over the world,” said Nishank.

To showcase the cultural-social and economic significance of Indian rivers, Sparsh Ganga has proposed to organize Yamuna Mahotsava in the year 2020, whenever the situations become normal.
