Karnataka Government Bridges CSR Gap with Innovative ‘Akanksha’ Portal. The Karnataka government has taken a significant step towards enhancing corporate social responsibility (CSR) engagement through its newly launched platform, ‘Akanksha.’ The initiative, aimed at connecting corporations and streamlining CSR activities, has garnered attention and recognition for its innovative approach.

‘Akanksha’ is a tech-enabled CSR platform designed to bring together CSR players, making it easier for them to collaborate on impactful projects. The impact of ‘Akanksha’ extends beyond state borders, as it aligns with national and global best practices in CSR. The NITI Aayog has recognized the initiative as a best practice in its report, emphasizing its effectiveness in addressing societal needs.

The platform is positioned as a model for other regions and countries looking to streamline CSR project funding and collaboration between corporations and governments.

Beyond ‘Akanksha,’ the Karnataka government has made strides in CSR initiatives, with hospitals in 114 most backward taluks set to receive oxygen concentrators, showcasing a comprehensive approach to addressing societal needs.

Akanksha’s launch signifies Karnataka’s commitment to leveraging technology and collaboration for the greater good, setting a positive precedent for CSR initiatives nationwide. As the portal continues to evolve, it is expected to play a pivotal role in fostering sustainable partnerships and driving impactful social change.

Karnataka CSR spending has seen an increase in each district of Karnataka, i.e., since the CSR law came into force through the Companies Act 2013, along with an increase in perperson spending in CSR expenditure in each district of Karnataka.

The mandatory provisions of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Policy have been formally introduced for Indian companies’ adherence. The industry has responded positively to these reform measures undertaken by the government.

Acknowledging the positive impact CSR has on society and making use of the opportunity available to contribute its mite to the well-being of the community around its business operations, MC&A Ltd. has taken up the philanthropy route to give back to society through its Corporate Social Responsibility Policy adopted w.e.f. FY 2014-15, which is open for amendment for further improvement from time to time.

To achieve sustainable and holistic development of the State of Karnataka, the Department of Planning, Programme Monitoring, and Statistics, Government of Karnataka, and UNDP’s Sustainable Development Goals Coordination Centre (SDGCC) have created a unique CSR matchmaking platform, “AKANKSHA,” to support and facilitate collaborations with public-private partnerships, CSR organizations, foundations, NGOs, multilaterals, and line departments of the government.
