100 Students from Assam to Graduate in Hospitality Skills under Diageo India’s ‘Learning for Life’ Program

7th October 2024:  Diageo India recently celebrated the graduation of the Third batch of students from Assam, trained in hospitality through its ‘Learning for Life’ program, in collaboration with Orion Educational Society (OES).

The convocation ceremony was graced by the presence of Shri Rupak Sarma, MLA (Nagaon Sadar), Shri Simanta Bora, Vice Chairman, Nagaon Municipal Board, Dr. Sarat Borkotoki, Former Principal, Nowgong College Autonomous, Mr. Tarun Yadav, Cluster Head, Assam and Mr. Surajit Dutta, Public Policy Lead, Northeast from Diageo.

The program comprises of over 300 hours of skills-based training provided by academia and industry professionals for employment in hospitality, tourism, and allied industries. The comprehensive curriculum offers students training in Front Office Administration and Food and Beverage services along with interpersonal skills and digital literacy. In addition to this, Industry/government-approved certification provided through this program ensures graduates are job-ready and equipped with expertise that is highly valued in the hospitality sector. Post-completion of the program, students are employed at respectable organizations.

Navdeep Singh Mehram, Head- CSR & Sustainability, Diageo India said, “We are pleased to partner with Orion Educational Society as part of our Learning for Life program and are delighted by the successful graduation of students from the Third batch in Assam. This initiative is aligned to our ‘Spirit of Progress’ goals, and we will continue efforts to make a positive impact on society, enhancing employability & improving livelihoods through our skilling initiatives.”

Mr Niladri Banerjee, Secretary, of Orion Educational Society said, “Our collaboration with Diageo India is helping to pave the way for youth to step into rewarding careers in hospitality. With a robust, industry-approved curriculum, we are confident in preparing our students for real-world success.”

To date, over 5,200 youth have been trained in business and hospitality sector under Diageo India’s Learning for Life program.
