Setting a global example in sustainability ITC is reckoned as the only company in the world with similar dimensions that is recycling positive for 20, 17, and 15 years respectively for water, carbon and solid waste. Its’ sustainability 2.0 or S2 vision is embedded in the inclusive and innovative business models of the company which it has been implementing on a large scale over a period of many years. ITC is taking multi-dimensional efforts to combat climate change, work towards ensuring water security for all, enable the transition to a net zero economy, create an effective circular economy for post-consumer packaging waste, restoring bio diversity through the adoption of nature based solutions, and scale up programmes that are congenial for and support sustainable livelihoods. In keeping with its’ vision of sustainability ITC Savlon has set a record as the first in the category to initiate the use of 70 % recycled plastic material and use it in the PET film of the soap wrapper of Savlon Glycerin soap. This is being seen as a landmark achievement in establ ish ing sustainability in the daily routines of the consumers. The recycled material postconsumer or PCR, is environment friendly packaging and the plastic is sourced from existing PET bottles and other discarded plastic.

This form of wrapper used in the soap category, is a sustainable choice and will have a long lasting effect in reducing plastic waste. This initiative of ITC establishes its R&D expertise and packaging design. Recycled plastic from products after use by consumers, in the film of Savlon glycerine soap wrappers goes a long way as a sustainable choice. Sameer Satpathy, Divisional Chief Executive, Personal Care Products Business, ITC Limited while commenting on this new initiative said that ITC Savlon has established many firsts in the field of offering innovative solutions for the needs of its valuable consumers. It has been a forerunner of preventive hygiene with the series of firsts in innovative solutions for its consumers. The packaging of Savlon Glycerin Soap is a category first, that adopts the principle of 3Rs which include- reduce, reuse and recycle. It is made up of 70% recycled plastic. This conscious and progressive step using recycled material is in one of India’s most penetrated and largest FMCG categories that not only tackles the issue of post consumer waste but also urges and motivates consumers to adopt a more responsible choice. ITC mentions that the Savlon Glycerin soap is Infused with Natural Origin glycerine, and it has been designed to offer effective defense against 100 disease causing germs* and making your skin feel soft. Savlon Glycerin soap, the company says, is suitable for all skin types while giving the consumer 99.9% protection from germs*.
