The Sikkim State Government has established the Corporate Social Responsibility Authority (CSRA) of Sikkim with the aims and objectives of bringing about collaboration between corporate social responsibility stakeholders in businesses, government, and civil society and improving the public infrastructure for the welfare of the citizens.

The lead areas that will be covered under the CSR Authority would include skill development, innovation and entrepreneurship, rural livelihood support, education, disability affairs, healthcare, water conservation, sanitation, women and child development, heritage, and culture.

The Committee has prepared an operational framework for the CSR Authority of Sikkim, considering various sectors’ national and state-level scenarios.

Over the years, it has enacted guidelines for identifying the areas and organizations with special needs at CSR support. CSRA of Sikkim has designed and executed new project ideas in various sectors, emphasizing education, climate change, health, and sports.

It also mobilizes CSR through corporates, PSU, and others’ support in auditing the activities that fund CSR.

TUL has formulated its own CSR & Sustainability Policy, which reflects its commitment to fulfilling stakeholders’ aspirations and contributing to the sustainable development of people, the planet and the organization.

The TUL’s key stakeholders include Employees, Shareholders, project-affected Affected Families, Local Communities and Local Bodies such as Panchayat, blocksand District administrations, etc. The thrust of the Policy is two-pronged viz, Conducting the business in a socially responsible way by maintaining a high level of organizational integrity and ethical behavior in conformity with expected standards of transparency in reporting and disclosing the performance in all spheres of our activities, demonstration of concern for the welfare of the employees, and adoption of operational methods and management practices. This will promote social and environmental sustainability to win the trust and confidence of all stakeholders.

This is proposed to be achieved through collective and united efforts of all employees with active involvement of top management, backed up by active internal communication strategies to spread awareness, sensitize and internalize amongst all internal stakeholders the need to adopt socially and environmentally sustainable methods.

REC

REC has provided CSR funds to Sikkim for various projects, transforming school education, strengthening the school library science laboratory, organizing a science & technology fair, recruiting mathematics teachers, providing smart classes, renovating the hostel, providing furniture, training teachers & exposure visits of teachers, students, etc. in Government schools.
