14 November 2025: In a remarkable humanitarian initiative, the 14th edition of the free Plastic Surgery Camp, organized by Akums, in collaboration with Rotary International Club and Interplast Germany, has once again ignited hope among hundreds of underserved patients. The camp is being held at Ramakrishna Mission Sevashram Hospital in Haridwar and is witnessing overwhelming participation from people across regions.

Launched on 10 November, the camp features a team of highly skilled doctors from Germany, who are providing ten days of continuous medical services. The initiative will run until 21 November 2025. Over the years, this tri-partner collaboration has emerged as a lifeline for individuals suffering from severe deformities, injuries, and long-neglected medical conditions.

The camp offers completely free treatment for patients affected by burn deformities, accident-related damage, tumours, severe wounds, and other complex conditions requiring reconstructive or corrective surgery. Tattoo-related treatments are excluded, and this clarification was communicated well in advance through public notices placed across the city.

Many patients return year after year, placing immense trust in the expertise and compassion of the visiting medical teams. Among them is Iftikhar, a young man from Bijnor, who has been undergoing staged reconstructive surgeries for the last five years. Severely burnt in an electrical accident, he was unable to afford the high surgical expenses elsewhere.

“The doctors may be from Germany, but they understand my pain,” he shared with gratitude. He credits Akums and Rotary International for giving him a second chance at life, calling them “messengers of God.” With about 70% recovery achieved, he proudly says he can now stand straight, something he thought he had lost forever.

Mrs. Archana Jain, Secretary of Akums Health & Educational Society, highlighted the longstanding commitment behind this initiative. “Through the joint efforts of Rotary International and Akums, this camp has been serving the poor and underprivileged at the grassroots level for many years. Every year, around 150 to 200 serious patients come here and receive free treatment,” she said.

She added that beyond medical care, it is the sense of dignity and understanding that patients value the most. Members of the Rotary women’s wing remain present throughout, assisting patients and ensuring smooth communication between Hindi-speaking patients and German doctors.

Ramakrishna Mission Sevashram Hospital has played a crucial role by hosting the camp and extending full cooperation through its own medical staff. Akums team of doctors is also assisting with dressings and post-operative care.

The cornerstone of this annual endeavour is the support of Interplast Germany, whose 12-member medical team has been rendering services in Haridwar with dedication and empathy. The partnership represents a powerful example of humanitarian collaboration across borders, driven by the shared goal of restoring lives and dignity.

With improved facilities, seamless coordination, and a growing number of beneficiaries each year, the 14th Plastic Surgery Camp stands as a beacon of hope, affirming that compassionate healthcare can indeed change lives.
