CBM India commemorates the International Day of Persons with Disabilities by recognizing their achievements and resilience

21 December, 2023: CBM India, a nonprofit organization working towards improving the lives of people with disabilities across India, commemorated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Bengaluru. The event witnessed a turnout of 400 attendees, comprising CBM India staff, local authorities, and persons with disabilities who are actively engaged in the transformative programs of CBM India.

The venue for the event held on the 19th of December 2023, was Brundavan School in Jigani Hobali, Anekal Taluk, Bengaluru. This event provided a platform to honor the achievements and resilience of persons with disabilities. This event also advocated their inclusion, and emphasized the imperative need for a more accessible and inclusive society.

The CBM India staff and local authorities gave speeches at the event and a prize distribution was conducted to felicitate the program participants of CBM India, who had distinguished themselves in game competitions held by the organization, and students who had completed CBM India’s computer literacy course were presented certificates.

A unique segment of the event was the sharing of journeys and experiences by the program participants. This highlighted the positive impact of the livelihood programs conducted by CBM India.

Executive Director of CBM India Trust – Mr. Sony Thomas, speaking on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities said that on that day they reflected on the transformative journeys of program participants. Their shared stories of belonging, empowerment, and seizing meaningful opportunities showed their resilience that broke barriers. He added that CBM was committed to fostering inclusion and congratulated the participants on their remarkable achievements.

Anganwadi teacher, social worker, and a participant in CBM India’s Inclusive Livelihood initiative- Ms. Parveen, shared her perspective on the positive changes through CBM India’s initiative and the transformative journey. She expressed how the CBM India program had given her the confidence to explore various job opportunities, and how she now encouraged fellow community members to reach beyond their limits. She expressed her gratitude to CBM India and its’ team members.

CBM India has executed successful initiatives in Jigani making a substantial impact on the lives of persons with disabilities. These include offering tailoring courses, providing seed funding for entrepreneurship, supporting goat rearing endeavors, establishing inclusive learning centers, implementing home-based therapy programs for individuals who have severe disabilities and conducting computer literacy courses.

Distinguished guests and eminent personalities graced the event.
