26 November 2024: Children from underserved communities took center stage and captivated audiences with their talent, humor, and resilience at the screening of Literacy India’s latest musical theatre production, ‘Door Ke Darshan’. The event celebrated the transformative power of Literacy India’s ‘Theatre in Education’ program, which equips young minds with creativity, confidence, and life skills and provides them with a holistic learning experience. It’s the same program that has nurtured talent like the iconic character ‘Millimeter’ for 3 Idiots and the young actors in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.
Directed by Rajeev Sharma and written by Nikhilraj, Door Ke Darshan transported the audience on a journey through history with witty and comical retellings of tales from the courts of Akbar-Birbal and Krishnadev Raya-Tenali Ram. The performance was elevated by music from renowned artists Palash Sen of Euphoria fame and Bonnie Chakravorty, a music director and singer from Kolkata.
What made the evening truly special was the participation of children from Literacy India’s centers in Bijwasan, Delhi, Bajghera, and Mullahera, Gurgaon. These young performers, many of whom come from humble backgrounds, mesmerized the audience with their acting, singing, and teamwork.
Speaking on the occasion, Indraani Singh, Founder & Managing Trustee of Literacy India and the world’s first woman commander on Airbus-300 said, “Theatre is a powerful tool that goes beyond performance. It builds confidence, fosters teamwork, and equips children with life skills that prepare them for the challenges of tomorrow. Watching these young stars shine on stage reaffirms our belief in the transformative power of creative education.”
The Theatre for Education initiative of Literacy India integrates performing arts into holistic learning, enabling children from underprivileged backgrounds to explore their potential, overcome barriers, and build self-confidence while creating memorable narratives that inspire their communities.
Adding another unique dimension to the event, students from Literacy India’s Mobile Journalism program documented the entire journey of the production. This initiative allowed the children to develop storytelling and technical skills, providing them with hands-on experience in digital content creation.
For over three decades, Literacy India has been empowering underserved communities through education and skill development. In addition to the academic programs, their creative programs such as Theatre in Education nurture artistic talent and instill confidence and collaboration, preparing children for a bright and independent future.
