Habitat for Humanity India and Samsung C&T Join Forces to Transform Lives of Warli Community Through Housing and Sanitation Initiative in Palghar

4th December 2024: Habitat for Humanity India, a leading housing nonprofit organization, has partnered with Samsung C&T to implement a comprehensive housing and sanitation project that will transform the lives of families belonging to the Warli tribe in Savare, Kanchad and Hamrapur villages located in Palghar district of Maharashtra. Through this initiative, Habitat for Humanity India will construct 15 new homes and establish sanitation units in three schools in Palghar addressing critical infrastructure needs in one of the region’s most underserved communities.

Commenting on this significant initiative, Mr. Anand Kumar Bolimera, National Director of Habitat for Humanity India, said, “This partnership represents a pivotal step in our mission to ensure everyone has a decent place to live. The homes we are building will provide each family with a strong foundation upon which they can build a better future for themselves. It will enable them to achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance they need to lead a life with dignity. This project exemplifies our commitment to transforming lives through housing. We are grateful to Samsung C&T for their support.”

This initiative addresses urgent housing challenges faced by the tribal communities in Savare village through the provision of decent shelter with an aim to improve their living conditions. It also includes the construction of improved school sanitation units benefitting girls and boys as well as comprehensive Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) training to ensure sustainable practices across the community.

This collaboration serves as a blueprint for sustainable rural development in India. By addressing the fundamental needs of housing and sanitation through strategic partnership, the project will not only transform the lives of people in the Savare, Kanchad, and Hamrapur villages of Palghar but will also create a replicable model for empowering rural communities nationwide.
