Muthoot Finance stands with Wayanad and pledges 50 new homes under its Muthoot Aashiyana Programme

14 August 2024: In a significant gesture of solidarity and support, Muthoot Finance, India’s largest gold loan NBFC, today announced the construction of 50 new homes for the survivors of the recent catastrophic landslides in Wayanad, Kerala. This initiative is an extension of the Muthoot Aashiyana project, a longstanding commitment to providing safe and secure homes to those affected by natural disasters.

Mr. Babu John Malayil, CSR Head, Muthoot Finance, and Ms. Simi KS, Manager, Corporate Communications, Muthoot Finance, addressed the media today at the Press Club, Ernakulam, regarding Muthoot Finance’s Board of Director’s decision to announce the rehabilitation initiative for the affected communities in Wayanad.

The landslides in Punjirimattom, Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, Meppadi, and Kunhome villages of Wayanad have caused widespread devastation and left many families displaced without shelter. Launched following the catastrophic Kerala floods in 2018, the Muthoot Aashiyana Project has provided secure housing to hundreds of families from marginalized communities across India, including Kerala, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Tamil Nadu, by handing out 257 houses till date. Further, there are a few underconstruction projects, including 6 in Thoothukudi for flood victims, along with other parts of the country. In response to this calamity, Muthoot Finance reaffirms its commitment to stand in solidarity with the people of Wayanad during this challenging time.

Mr. George Alexander Muthoot, Managing Director, Muthoot Finance, said, “As we witness the devastating impact of the landslides in Wayanad, our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones and homes. At Muthoot Finance, we believe that our responsibility extends beyond business; it lies in giving back to society and standing with those in need. The Muthoot Aashiyana Program is our way of offering a ray of hope to the survivors, enabling them to rebuild their lives with dignity. We are committed to continuing our philanthropic legacy, and we sincerely thank the government officials, armed forces, and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to bring relief to the affected areas.”

Since years, the Muthoot Aashiyana Programme has been a beacon of hope for many, offering rebuilt homes to those who have lost everything. With this latest initiative, Muthoot Finance aims to provide much-needed relief and support to the people of Wayanad, helping them restart their lives in the aftermath of this tragedy.
