12 October, 2023 : Nippon Paints, in the paint manufacturing industry in Asia, announced its’ collaboration with Avtar Human Capital Trust for Project Puthri. This initiative focuses on empowering underprivileged girl students from Tamil Nadu. The first project was launched at Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS), Walajabad.

This project is designed to provide life skill training along with education and mentorship. With a view to empowering the underprivileged girls, Nippon Paint India, will ensure that 80% of the PUTHRI scholars secure white-collar jobs across various sectors.

The main objective of Project Puthri is to develop a cadre of women professionals right from the bottom of the socio-economic pyramid. This developmental project cited as the first one in India, creates career intentionality among the underprivileged girl students. The official commencement of this project was marked with a grand inauguration ceremony with 100 students in attendance at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Walajabad, Kancheepuram.

This project identifies underprivileged girls in the age group of 13-18, who are enrolled in classes 8 -12 in Government and Corporation schools who have a high potential. These young scholars will then be nurtured as Puthri scholars and will receive comprehensive guidance and support for five years.

Comprehensive training will be imparted across eight crucial dimensions covering Hygiene, Health, Financial literacy, Analytics, Nutrition, Entrepreneurship, digital literacy and defense to these young girls.  The knowledge and skills given to them will equip them to excel academically as well as on the personal and professional front. This will go a long way in building a brighter future for them. Life coaches and mentors have been enlisted to support these girls in their five-year journey.

President of Nippon Paint’s Decorative Division, Mr. Mahesh Anand, expressed his excitement at the collaboration with Avtar Human Capital Trust. He was of the opinion that education and mentorship play a pivotal role in shaping the future of young individuals. The 3E’s – Education, Empowerment and Engagement he said have always been a priority at Nippon Paint. He believed that this initiative would make a significant impact in the lives of the girls, helping them to reach their full potential.

The Unveiling of the Puthri Anthem, and the exciting Nippon Blobby Jigsaw puzzle for participants followed by the Puthri Pledge were the other highlights of the project’s inauguration.
