To institutionalise the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities undertaken by the corporations and industries in the districts of Odisha and across welfare sectors with different priorities and initiatives, the government constituted the CSR Council in 2017 under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary with a few members.
It recommended the same to the corporations for undertaking CSR activities.
The functions of the CSR Council include -approving the list of projects shared by the district administration and the projects identified by departments at the state level to prioritise the projects. And Biannually assessing the CSR activities in the state vis-à-vis the developmental agenda. It also encourages corporations to undertake baseline and impact assessment studies concerning projects in line with the state’s developmental agenda.
Review the information reported by corporations regarding CSR activities and serve as feedback to the corporations on the efficacy of CSR interventions. Assess the good practices followed by corporations, which could be replicated in the state. Institutionalize annual CSR papers and CSR awards.
Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd.
The main objective of MCL’s CSR policy is to lay down guidelines to make CSR a key business process for sustainable development for society. It aims to supplement the role of the government in enhancing welfare measures in society based on the immediate and long-term social and environmental consequences of their activities.
MCL will act as a good Corporate Citizen, subscribing to the principles of Global Compact for implementation.

Tata Steel Ltd.’s (TSL) CSR works to empower the rural and Indigenous communities in and around Tata Steel’s areas of operation. Running a basic computer and spoken English training centre as part of CSR Project follows a new structured approach to empower the communities of Kalinganagar, Joda, and Gopalpur communities through a skilling initiative. As the youth of these areas are skilled in IT and English, their employability will improve because the industry recognises the NIIT certificate.

The Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd. is a Gold Category State PSU committed to fulfilling its obligation under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The OMC is working to sustain the inclusive development of the villages in the OMC vicinity. The Company invites applications from eligible agencies and organizations to conduct a Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) program to make the OMC vicinity villages in the JK Road region Open defecation-free (ODF).
