The Charge Against Leprosy is led by Tata Motors and NJMS

21st February 2024: In the heart of Jamshedpur, amidst the hustle and bustle of city life, lies a beacon of hope and compassion—Nav Jagrat Manav Samaj (NJMS). This non-profit organization, with unwavering support from Tata Motors, is leading the charge against leprosy, striving to make a tangible difference in the lives of countless individuals.

NJMS has dedicated itself wholeheartedly to the prevention and control of leprosy, a disease that not only affects the physical health of individuals but also casts a shadow of stigma and discrimination. With Tata Motors standing firmly by its side, NJMS has been able to embark on a journey towards eradicating this debilitating illness, one step at a time.

The collaboration between NJMS and Tata Motors has proven to be a formidable force in the fight against leprosy. With over 500 local volunteers, including Tata Motors employees and other philanthropic souls, NJMS has been able to extend its reach and impact. Together, they have achieved remarkable milestones in reducing the incidence of leprosy in Jamshedpur and its surrounding areas.

One of the most commendable efforts of NJMS is its annual door-to-door survey, which aims at early detection of leprosy cases. This initiative alone has reached a staggering 75,000 people, facilitating timely intervention and treatment. As a result, the number of cases in Jamshedpur has plummeted from 1.5 to 0.5 persons per 1000 in just three years—an achievement that speaks volumes about the effectiveness of their approach.

Moreover, NJMS operates the Antyoday Bhawan, a facility that provides free medical care, boarding, and lodging to over 4000 leprosy patients. This holistic support not only addresses the physical needs of the patients but also extends to education and livelihood initiatives, ensuring that they can rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose.

The support provided by Tata Motors has been instrumental in propelling NJMS’s impactful work forward. Mr. Vinod Kulkarni, CSR Head at Tata Motors, aptly captures the essence of this partnership, highlighting NJMS’s unwavering commitment to eradicating leprosy and empowering those affected by it. Through collaborative efforts and unwavering dedication, they are forging a path toward a future where every individual, irrespective of their health challenges, can lead a life of dignity and inclusion.

The partnership between NJMS and Tata Motors stands as a shining example of what can be achieved when compassion and resilience come together in pursuit of a noble cause. As they continue to work hand in hand, they are not just fighting a disease; they are building a brighter and more inclusive future for all.
