29 september, 2023: The/Nudge institute, a non-profit organization and Daily Rounds, the largest academic network of doctors in India, partnered for the latter’s “End Ultra Poverty Program.” This program aims to empower women who belong to ultra poor families by breaking the ultra-poverty cycle. They will endeavor over the next three years towards creating sustainable local livelihoods for 400 women. These women belong to the rural communities in Latehar and Lohardaga of Jharkhand.
This collaboration is a significant step towards addressing the urgent issue of ultra-poverty by focusing on the marginalized women and families from the rural and underserved regions of Jharkhand.
Based on different criteria, the houses are shortlisted, after which grants and asset transfer is provided. The chosen livelihood for the women in the selected households, is Goatery and Piggery based on the market opportunity. Training will also be imparted to women on the practical implementations of livelihood activities, income savings and village marketplace.
Mr. Vineet Bagri, the CEO of DailyRounds commenting on this initiative said that there was great satisfaction in being directly involved and bringing about a change in 400 households and influencing 1000 lives positively. The End Ultra Poverty Program, pioneered by BRAC, he added was one of the very few evidence-based programs that had been proven to reach – and empower – those living in ultra-poverty over a sustained period.
Atul Satija, Founder and CEO of The/Nudge Institute said that Jharkhand was India’s second poorest state where a significant number of households don’t have access to even two square meals a day. He was thankful to DailyRounds for recognizing this pressing need for serving the poorest of the poor.
To support this initiative by Nudge for a 3-year period Daily Rounds has set aside over 60% of its CSR funds from the previous year. To achieve the desired outcome and impact, regular monitoring and evaluation will be undertaken.
