GHCL’s Commitment to Education: Transforming Lives through CSR Initiatives

“Om Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramay, a Sarve Bhadrani Pashyantu, Maa Kaschith Dukhabhag Bhavet” meaning – “May all be happy. May all be healthy. May all see auspiciousness. May none suffer from sorrows.”

This is the Philosophy of GHCL Foundation, the CSR arm of GHCL Limited. The Foundation has been at the forefront of various CSR initiatives, particularly in the field of education, and recognizes its pivotal role in empowering the youth of India and driving social progress.

Illam Thedi Kalvi, which means Education to Home is one of the key initiatives in FY23 by the GHCL Foundation. It included a collaboration with the School Education Department in Madurai aimed at addressing academic gaps caused by the COVID-19 lockdown. 52 tuition centres were supported in Madurai and close to 1200 primary school children benefitted through this program. This initiative ensured evening classes for students, including primary and upper primary school students across centers present in nearby villages.

GHCL Foundation is also organizing a program called “Vidyajot”, in villages around its plant in Sutrapada, Gujarat. GHCL’s Commitment to Education: Transforming Lives through CSR Initiatives “Om Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramay, a Sarve Bhadrani Pashyantu, Maa Kaschith Dukhabhag Bhavet” meaning – “May all be happy. May all be healthy. May all see auspiciousness. May none suffer from sorrows.” This program is aimed at increasing parent-teacher interactions which in turn increase awareness and engagement of parents of children studying in Anganwadis. This involves the parents in various ways so that they understand and value the education of their children.

GHCL Foundation has partnered with the Dept. of Public Health and Preventive Medicine in Manapparai, Madurai, and screened about 350 adolescent girls for anemia. Followed by an awareness program organized for parents and teachers to sensitize them about anemia and its consequences. In association with FPAI, GHCL Foundation is also conducting a Reproductive Health Education Program in Manapparai. This program will benefit 1000 adolescent boys and girls.

In addition to academic support, the GHCL Foundation believes in holistic development and engages students in various extracurricular activities. These activities include storytelling, tree planting, and various competitions, which help foster creativity, environmental consciousness, and community engagement. To further promote comprehensive development, science fairs and competitions are organised and there is a special focus on Mathematics and English classes for secondary school students. These initiatives aim to enhance skills and knowledge in these subjects, preparing them for future academic and professional endeavors.

The Foundation also collaborates with educational institutions and government organizations like NSDC. This helps in providing young minds with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their chosen fields, increasing their employability and contributing to India’s workforce. GHCL Foundation runs four vocational training institutes in the heart of rural Gujarat which serve as platforms for enabling the youth with essential skills that are in demand in the job market.
