“Threads of Health’’ a Health Awareness Series with 26 kathputlis launched by Rang De Neela

3 August, 2023: Rang De Neela is a unique initiative that addresses health awareness through the use of traditional art forms. It leverages creative artistry and engaging storytelling techniques to further behavioral changes within society and public health education.

Its’ latest health awareness series “Threads of Health” that featured a 26 Kathputlis Concept that was curated by Metabolic Sutradhars was launched recently. Bollywood characters and other reputed personalities were the source of inspiration for these Kathputlis. This unique endeavour will see Senior “Metabolic Physicians” from all over India, such as Diabetologists and Endocrinologists take on the role of “Metabolic Sutradhars.” They will be accompanied with traditional puppeteers.   Health education which is a crucial topic will be imparted in and engaging manner which will be culturally relevant as well.

This cross –sectoral art and health initiative will promote awareness of noncommunicable diseases, while aiming to foster positive behavioural changes in society by making creative use of traditional art forms.

The inspiration of “Threads of Health’’ is deep rooted in Indian folk art tradition of Kathputlis. In this initiative string puppets are used to narrate stories and educate the public on 16 crucial health topics.

Short captivating videos on diverse health conditions featuring experts in the relevant subject matters for a part of this engaging health awareness series. Individuals aged 25 and above are the target audience for this engaging and interactive health education.

  • Diabetologist, Chairperson at Zandra Healthcare, Co-founder of the Rang De Neela initiative, and Secretary at United Diabetes Forum – Dr Rajiv Kovil, speaking about the “Threads of Health” initiative said that this was an innovative bridge between public education and traditional art. The combination of a powerful storytelling and puppetry leaves a lasting impact. He said that awareness about critical metabolic disorders and health concerns would be highlighted.  

Co-founder of Zandra Healthcare and holder of a Ph.D. in Social Sciences, Dr Ami Shah mentioned that the collaboration with Kathputli Puppeteers will aim to impart health education on 16 topics that were relevant to society. Bollywood actors like Kareena Kapoor, Ajay Devgan as Geet and Singham respectively provided the inspiration for one episode of these engaging sessions. 

The “Threads of Health “initiative seeks to empower communities and individuals to lead healthier lives through health awareness.
