School children of JBCN International School Parel, displayenvironmental stewardship through a tree plantation drive

2 November, 2023: The teachers and learners of the JBCN International School, Parel joined hands recently, to successfully execute a tree plantation drive at Kalamb which is located approximately 100 kms from Mumbai. This initiative went a long way in supporting their local community and a larger cause of nature. Forests of Hopefulness, an environmental NGO supported the initiative. The successful event highlighted the commitment that the youth today have as custodians or protectors of the environment for the future generations.

This collaboration saw numerous saplings being planted, which included 19 different medicinal plants and trees that were carefully selected to enhance the local ecosystem.

The experts offered their guidance to the children who were planting trees and were also taught how they could care for them. They learned how trees played a vital role in the mitigation of climate change, in improving the air quality and also sustaining biodiversity.

The Principal, of JBCN International School, Parel, Mr Davi Sanchez Netto said that in their school they embraced the concept of EduCreating Changemakers and each time the learners brainstorm for ideas to tackle problems that are not created by them, they are developing their critical and analytical skills. The tree plantation drive he added was a tangible difference that was being made and that was benefitting the Kalamb community and the state. The students were actively contributing to the global as well as the local communities, he added.

Young leader and environmental enthusiast, Nirvaan Phophalia, who is also the President and Co-Founder of the JBCN International School Parel campus environment club ‘Ecospire,’ spearheaded this initiative with great enthusiasm and commitment. The co-founders of Ecospire, Aarav Chaudhary and Aarav Jain also supported this. Teachers and other club members too registered their support.

The success of this initiative was also attributed to Mr Jaidev Amirapu and others from Forests by Heartfulness.
