‘Sports Lab’ for budding athletes launched in Punjab, by Hyundai Motor India Foundation

Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) has launched a new CSR initiative through its CSR arm HMIL (Hyundai Motor India Foundation), in Punjab. The “Sports Lab “project, will enrol 2000 students from 20 schools, across Punjab. Budding athletes will be trained in various sports disciplines. Their advanced training choice covers Cricket, Hockey, Wrestling, Yoga, Softball, Football and Handball. This project has a gender diverse grassroots participation from 5th to 8th standard students. Rural youth will also be counselled on career opportunities in sports. The objective of this programme is to enhance awareness of the benefits of sports & fitness in daily lives and offer opportunities for those who want to take it up at a professional level. This will also include students form lesser privileged backgrounds. These 2000 students from 20 government schools in Bhatinda and Firozpur district of Punjab based on their aptitude and interest will be trained to take up sports for leisure either at amateur or professional levels.

At the launch of the “Sports Lab,” Mr. Puneet Anand, AVP & Vertical Head – Corporate Affairs, Hyundai Motor India Ltd said that it had been scientifically proven that students who pursued any form of sports generally did well in academics and were better socially adjusted. Unfortunately, most children did not have access to even the basic sports infrastructure. At Hyundai he said, they were committed towards improving lives through their pursuit of ‘Progress for Humanity’. Under their global CSR philosophy ‘CONTINUE’, they engaged with the communities through various CSR initiatives, to resolve social issues.

This particular initiative he mentioned was launched with the view of promoting sports and fitness amongst the youth.

The ‘Sports-Lab’ Project will equip students from classes 5th to 8th with both physical and theoretical training. Counselling programmes and sports camps would form a part of the after school hours training, facilitating the overall development of students.

Hyundai Motor India in partnership with Roots Foundation will connect those talented students who want to graduate to professional sports to regional sports academies.
