Prize money of 1.5 crore for young innovators competing in Samsung India’s Top 10 Teams of Solve for Tomorrow 2023

The top 10 teams of the National education and innovation competition “Solve for Tomorrow “of Samsung India was recently announced.  This celebrates the spirit of innovation, social responsibility and enterprise amongst the Gen Z of India.

Ideas to solve real world problems as diverse as converting seawater into potable water, food wastage, cleaning beaches, identifying pests and diseases in crops, providing a more sustainable leather tanning process or benefitting individuals with hearing loss by providing more accessibility were put forth by these 10 teams. Bridging the communication gap with sign language users, helping in finding missing children, helping individuals stay cool in summers or helping the visually impaired to read were also put across by them.

The cities that the Top 10 teams come from are Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh, Darjeeling in West Bengal, Lakhimpur and Golaghat in Assam, Emakulam in Kerala, Surat and Ahmedabad in Gujarat and Delhi and Chennai.

The Top 10 teams in a bid to enhance their prototypes will get INR 100,000. They will also receive mentoring support from industry experts from IIT Delhi and Samsung employees. The latest Galaxy Z Flip smartphone will also be given to the Top 10 Teams. Three national winners will win 1.5 crores in prize money.

The second year of this competition sees the partnership of Samsung India with Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology Transfer (FITT) IIT Delhi.

A boot camp at IIT Delhi was held to shortlist the Top 10 teams of Solve for Tomorrow. These teams interacted with Samsung employees and researchers while visiting the Samsung India offices, the R&D centers of the company, the design center and the Samsung Opera House in Bengaluru.

The main highlights of the bootcamp held by Samsung and its partners FITT and MeitY startup Hub was their mentoring and helping them to further develop their ideas. To create initial prototypes each team received INR 20,000, after which they pitched their ideas to a jury comprising young Samsung employees. As a token for their attendance, each team member received a Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 laptop and Galaxy Buds2 Pro along with a certificate.

Mr. Hyun Kim, Corporate Vice President, Samsung Southwest Asia, said that They were proud that their “Solvers” had shown passion to solve the current problems being faced by India. Samsung he said was instrumental in empowering and supporting the next generation in achieving their full potential and pioneering positive social changes. He was hopeful that the Top 10 teams would strengthen their solutions under the mentorship provided by Samsung and Its partners.

Mr. Jeet Vijay, CEO, MeitY Startup Hub said that it was great to see young minds with such innovative ideas. He further added that the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow program would help these youth scale new heights by  transforming  their ideas into action, and thus contributing  to the transformation of the country.

The competition invited ideas to solve problems from 16-22 year olds focused on four themes – Health and Wellness, Education & Learning, Environment & Sustainability and Diversity & Inclusion.

Youth from across 500 cities, towns and villages in India will respond and submit ideas in the Solve for Tomorrow 2023 to help solve problems that India faces. The next 12 weeks will see the Top 10 teams enhancing their prototypes and getting ready for their final pitch in October 2023 in the presence of an eminent jury.

Solve for Tomorrow was first launched in 2019 and is currently operating in 63 countries all across the world and over 2.3 million people worldwide have participated so far.
