Capgemini Doubles Down on Sustainability Initiatives at its Campuses in Pune

Pune, 25 February, 2021 – Capgeminihas doubled down on its sustainability objectives across its campuses in Pune – Hinjewadi and Talwade, as aligned with the Group’s objective to achieve Net-Zero goals by 2030 through various sustainability initiatives and programs.  

Initiatives at Hinjewadi Campus

Capgemini’s campus in Hinjewadi received the LEED (Leadership in Energy Efficient Design) platinum certification for its energy, water efficiency & sustainable practices. The campus has a total built-up area of 1.75 million sq. ft., which also includes a 1.2 MWp onsite captive solar plant. Additionally, the campus features a bio-gas plant which generates gas for cooking use from recycled food waste and has an organic waste converter for solid waste management. Furthermore, 100% recycled water from sewage treatment plant is used for gardening and toilet flush. The complete campus is operated and monitored through a building management system.

 The Hinjewadi campus also has an IS0 50001 certification for energy management system, features a state-of-the-art energy efficient equipment that includes chillers, hot water generator and pumping system. Moreover, the campus has an AI (Artificial Intelligence) -based cooling optimizer to manage data centre energy efficiency by automatically controlling and optimizing the cooling requirement for data centre IT loads.

In order to further raise the sustainability quotient Capgemini plans to build an additional nearly 200 kWp solar plant and deploy solar streetlights for the complete campus.

Initiatives at Talwade Campus

Capgemini’s campus in Talwade has received platinum certification by the Indian Green Building Council for its energy efficiency and sustainability practices. The campus has a total built up area of nearly 0.8 million sq. ft., which also includes 630 kWp onsite solar plant Additionally, the campus has 250 KLD membrane bioreactor sewage treatment plant to treat 100% wastewater & reuse for gardening and toilet flush. The campus also has Organic waste converter for solid waste management and features state-of-the-art energy efficient equipment that includes chillers, modular UPS and pumping system. The campus has also won ‘Performance Challenge for Green Built Environment’ award at the Green Building Congress held in October 2020.

Capgemini further plans to build additional nearly 125 kWp solar plant at the Talwade campus and aims to decrease the usage of diesel fuel to reduce almost 500 tonnes of carbon emission per annum. Additionally, Capgemini plans to deploy solar streetlights for the campus as well as energy efficient air handling units.  

Furthermore, to support electric mobility Capgemini has introduced electric vehicles in Hinjewadi and Talwade campuses to provide employees pickup and drop from home to office.
