Road to Recovery- a campaign focused on Covid-19 relief work

6th December 2021: The pandemic had harsh effects on many people. In response to the same, Habitat for Humanity India and MUFG Bank (MUFG) have joined hands to provide essential hygiene items and medical equipments to government healthcare facilities under the NGO’s Road to Recovery COVID-19 response. Road to Recovery is Habitat for Humanity India’s pan-India humanitarian response to the pandemic aimed at creating a safety-net for families affected by COVID-19 and the lockdown, supporting them with relief measures and moving towards permanent housing eco-system solutions for a long-term post COVID-19 recovery. Road to Recovery 2.0 is Habitat India’s response to the deadly second wave of the pandemic.

Support from MUFG has enabled Habitat India provide of 5000 PPE kits, 500 hygiene kits, 51 oxygen cylinders, 25 ventilators, 50 thermal scanners, 50 glucometers, 50 nebulizer machines, 50 digital BP apparatus, 50 pulse oximeters, 20 biomedical waste bins and 10 ICU para monitors to 5 government hospitals in Delhi NCR, Jaipur (Rajasthan), Bengaluru (Karnataka), Sriperumbudur (Tamil Nadu) and Thane (Maharashtra). This project will positively impact the lives of over 2,750 individuals.

“Vulnerable population at the bottom of the socioeconomic pyramid has been the worst-affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The partnership with MUFG Bank will help us build resilience for these communities through the provision of essential hygiene and medical equipments. We are grateful to MUFG Bank for their support,” stated Dr. Rajan Samuel, Managing Director, Habitat for Humanity India while speaking at the handover ceremony which was conducted virtually on 1st December 2021.

Since March 2020, Habitat India has responded to COVID-19 pandemic through its Road to Recovery programmatic strategy, by supporting the vulnerable communities with Hygiene Kits, Family Essential Kits, Conditional Cash Transfers, Behavior Change Communication and by setting up Habitat Care Centres impacting 13,27,076 people.

Through Road to Recovery 2.0, Habitat India has served 3,24,343 people through the provision of Family Essential Kits, Hygiene Kits and by ramping up our efforts of establishing Habitat Care Centres. The Habitat Care Centres augment existing medical infrastructure and support vulnerable individuals with safe shelter to isolate or quarantine, keeping families safe and preventing transmission. Till date, Habitat India has set up 43 Habitat Care Centres across India.
