BPCL supports Cochlear Implantation for 30 Underprivileged Children in Maharashtra through its Healthcare initiative.

4 July, 2023: A significant healthcare initiative primarily aimed at the profoundly deaf children of Maharashtra, was executed by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) recently. In this CSR Initiative, BPCL partnered with IMERMIRC – the Indorewala Memorial Educational & Medical Institute & Research Centre, to support 30 underprivileged children in Maharashtra for cochlear implantation surgeries.

Individuals who have experienced inner-ear damage, and for whom external hearing aids don’t prove beneficial, experience enhanced hearing after undergoing this life changing procedure of Cochlear Implantation. Through this programme which is led by IMEMIRC early intervention and prevention of hearing loss is offered to the children who are economically disadvantaged and born deaf.

This thrust area under which BPCL has covered this initiative is Health & Sanitation and the hospital at Nashik and other locations in Maharashtra are the facilities where the surgeries are conducted.

Well known Indian Former cricketer and commentator, Mr. Sanjay Manjrekar graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. During the event Mr. Manjrekar, interacted with the beneficiaries and also shared his experiences. He provided words of inspiration to the children who had already undergone or were undergoing cochlear implantation surgeries. He mentioned how he had in the game of cricket witnessed extraordinary moments, where victories were celebrated and cherished, but these daily miracles that he had seen through the cochlear implantation program were truly remarkable. He said that BPCL was driven by a noble purpose in their support and he extended good wishes to all those who were united by this common goal. He further added, that the children were the real heroes in overcoming their hearing challenges.

IMEMIRC, which is a charitable organization operates the “Indorewala ENT Hospital “a state of the art super-specialty care center in Nashik.  This hospital, a certified leading center for cochlear implant surgeries in North Maharashtra has been empaneled since 2016 under the ADIP scheme or Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchasing/Fitting of Aids/Appliances which is a Central Government Program that supports cochlear implant surgeries.

The children who will benefit from this programme will be empowered to lead a healthier and fuller life. The salient features of the project will include the provision of free or low cost services to the underprivileged, thereby enhancing quality of ENT services that are available to the community. thorough medical examination, which will include radiological, audiological and psychological evaluations before the surgeries are conducted. The suitability of the candidates will also be determined for the cochlear implantation after due consultations with cochlear implant surgeons. The beneficiaries for this cochlear implant surgeries and related rehabilitations are 30 children in Maharashtra.

This joint initiative of BPCL and IMEMIRC will contribute to the well-being and development of the underprivileged children of Maharashtra.
