Public Health Centres in Palghar, Maharashtra refurbished by SBICAPS and Habitat for Humanity India

5 Dec, 2023: Four refurbished healthcare centres in Dahanu, block of Palghar district, Maharashtra were successfully refurbished and handed over to the district medical authorities on 1st December 2023. This was jointly executed by Habitat for Humanity India a housing nonprofit organisation and SBICAPS – SBI Capital Markets Limited, which was incorporated in 1986 as a wholly owned subsidiary of State Bank of India and is a SEBI registered Category I Merchant Banker and Research Analyst.

Present at the handing over were, Managing Director and CEO, SBI CAPS -Shri Rajay Sinha, President and Chief Operating Officer, SBICAPS- Mr. Shesh Ram Verma, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, SBICAPSMr. Krishnan Kutty, DHO, Palghar – Dr Santosh Choudhary and Taluka Medical Officer, Dahanu block – Dr Sandeep Gadekar. The local community and Habitat India’s programmes team also joined in.  

The project undertook the repairing and refurbishing of the Primary Health Centre of Malwada, the sub-centre of Ranshet, and the dispensaries of Dabhadi and Chalani. Over 71,000 individuals will be served by the centres and essential healthcare services will be provided to the local community. The repair and refurbishment work that was carried out took care of the external and internal plastering, painting, improved sanitation units and also included the overall plumbing, roofing, and electrical work.

The National Director (Interim), Habitat for Humanity India, James Samuel while commenting on this partnership said that they were excited to partner with SBI Capital Markets for the improvement of healthcare centres in Palghar. The medical team would be able to perform their duties in healthier working conditions with the refurbished infrastructure. The low-income families in the region could also benefit from their services. The commitment of Habitat for Humanity is putting people at the centre of its work.

Several social initiatives ranging from healthcare, education, environment, poverty alleviation, child development, vocational training and women empowerment are being supported by SBICAPS. It is actively pursuing and endorsing community improvement efforts in varying capacities, all over India under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. One of the flagship initiatives over the past few years, under SBICAPS’ CSR programme has been ‘upgradation of primary healthcare facilities’ considering the impact of the COVID pandemic.

Making basic healthcare facilities accessible to all by allocating a substantial amount of CSR Funds to this initiative is being done by the company. Over the past 3 years it has supported 15 PHC or Primary Healthcare Centres along with 1 Community Healthcare centre across various districts of Maharashtra. This has been done to strengthen the primary health care system and take care of the health and well-being of all sections of society.
