Bengaluru, August 15, 2026: To commemorate the 80th Independence Day, Canara Bank celebrated the essence of freedom by reiterating its pledge to build an inclusive India, where even the deprived sections of society get a chance to empower themselves.

The celebrations at the Bank’s Head Office in Bengaluru combined traditional Independence Day proceedings with a series of social-impact initiatives, reflecting Canara Bank’s continued focus on education, inclusion and community welfare. The programme commenced with Vande Mataram, followed by the hoisting of the National Flag, singing of the National Anthem, and the release of tricolour balloons by Shri Brajesh Kumar Singh, MD & CEO, along with the Bank’s Executive Directors.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Brajesh Kumar Singh, MD & CEO, Canara Bank, said, “Independence is not only a celebration of our past, but also a responsibility of building the future of India. Moving forward on the path of Viksit Bharat@2047, true success would lie in how well we have been able to provide opportunities to each of our citizens. Through our focus on education, financial inclusion and community welfare, Canara Bank remains committed to contributing to a more equitable and empowered India.”

As part of the celebrations, Canara Bank extended the  Canara Vidya Jyothi Scholarship  to girl students, reinforcing its focus on education as a powerful enabler of social and economic empowerment. Under this scheme, the Bank has provided scholarship assistance of 18.89 crore to 47,232 meritorious SC/ST girl students from Government and Government-aided schools, supporting their continued education and aspirations.

The Independence Day programme also featured CSR interventions aimed at improving the quality of life of senior citizens and Divyangjans. Canara Bank extended 4.22 lakh to Aaraike Charitable Trust towards providing 75 rexine beds and 50 cots for an old-age home. In addition, the Bank extended 4.44 lakh to Samarthanam Trust towards providing five electric wheelchairs for Divyangjans.

The Bank’s Independence Day initiatives reflect the idea that nation building is not only about institutions and infrastructure, but also about empowerment of individuals and giving them access to opportunities.

Canara Bank reaffirmed its commitment to Viksit Bharat @2047, with a focus on empowering the nation’s Yuva Shakti through education, inclusion and opportunities, aligning with the theme of India’s 80th Independence Day “Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat @2047.”
