Making the right moves for the right cause

Powell is an emerging company on the block, but it has already identified future growth. The company is committed to a mission of serving billions of countrymen by worshipping them as living Gods.

Power of Wellness or simply put Powell Laboratories Pvt Ltd is a young firm with lots of promise and potential. It is built on a strong foundation of fundamentals created by Late Prof. Dr Sailendra Nath Roy, in 1975. The company is currently operating in a niche market but aspires to become a market leaders in wellness industry. “We have the vision to touch Rs.100 crore and are moving towards that direction soon, with capacity enhancement. Our efforts have begun to show results on many segments of the business,” says confident Dr. Sudipta Narayan Roy, MD and CEO of Powell Laboratories Pvt Ltd. Armed with all required international accreditations, the firm is ready to go aggressive in expanding its reach in SAARC countries. In the current pandemic situation, Dr Roy feels that there is lot of positives that he has experienced. “In one day, the Department of Drug Control called us and sanctioned the licence for manufacturing sanitizers. Both centre and state governments have cooperated in helping the business house in pharma. “Two officials TP Das, Director of Drug Control and Asst. Director Partha Dev Kar has played a key role in this, helping the sector to meet the urgent requirements in India,” said Dr Roy. He calls them the unsung heroes of government.

Post-COVID-19, Dr Roy feels the Indian population will go for more preventive care. Holistic medicines will acquire a new dimension; from a niche market, it will move to the mainstream market. Homoeopathy will get a new facelift with the government recognizing many of the treatment and medicines. He acknowledges that when they began recommending them like Arsenicum album, they faced significant opposition, criticism and even abuses. So, to build confidence, Powell, began educating people about medicine and its benefits and suggested patients try it, irrespective of the brand, the industry benefitted. Its efforts got a shot in the arm when the AYUSH ministry recommended the use of homoeopathic medicine Arsenicum album 30 as a prophylactic medicine against the infection.

The company in addition to building strong industry and business, also has a caring philosophy that is preached by Swami Vivekananda. “Powell is a CSR active company, serving humanity is in the DNA of the organization. Our CSR wing is headed by Dr. Gour Das, who runs Vivekananda Swasthya Seva Sangha, the rural healthcare organization. We operate mobile medical vans, that go in the micro interiors of the states and runs medical camps in areas deprived of state medical facilities,” says Dr Roy.

He is buoyed by the increased women in business. Dr Roy has launched a direct selling division named PowellCare, wherein Dr Roy’s vision is to develop and train 10,000 women entrepreneurs by 2021 in wellness sectors as Powell’s channel partners, all over the country and make them self dependent. He is exploring Government tie-ups for the same to make them financially dependent and already 100 women entrepreneurs in West Bengal and North East joined the mission. The company has big plans and has invested in human capital to grow.
