As Noida Expands, What Happens to Its Green Cover?

For a city that grew out of industrial mandate, Noida is something of an outlier when it comes to Indian urban development. Widely cited as one of India’s greenest cities, the planned township boasts an estimated 50% green cover, built around botanical gardens, biodiversity parks, and green corridors. But the numbers also carry a caveat. Gautam Buddh Nagar district, of which Noida forms the urban core, has just 1.56% of its total geographical area under recorded forest cover. Plantation drive held at Cotton Green and Sewri East to support green cover and public participation in environmental care. Mumbai Port Authority organised a tree plantation drive on World Environment Day 2026 under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative, reinforcing the message that caring for the environment begins with individual responsibility and collective action. The plantation programme was organised by the Civil Engineering Department of Mumbai Port Authority at two locations.
