Vivekanand Education Society conducted a Beach Clean-Up Drive at Dadar Chowpatty in collaboration with Project Mumbai’s Jallosh initiative and the Indian Green Building Council

15th September 2025: Vivekanand Education Society (VES), one of Mumbai’s most respected educational groups, collaborated with Project Mumbai’s Jallosh initiative and the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), a CII initiative that promotes sustainable, eco-friendly building practices through green certifications across India, organized a large-scale beach cleanup drive at Dadar Chowpatty. The cleanup drive was led by 300 NSS students from various VES institutes, along with 20+ teachers and other volunteers, who together collected over 2070 kgs of garbage.

Participating colleges of VES included VES Polytechnic, VES Business School, VES College of Law, VES College of Pharmacy, VES Institute of Technology, VES College of Architecture, VES College of Arts, Science & Commerce, and VES Institute of Management Studies & Research. The waste collected included paper, plastics, cloth materials, and religious remnants. This effort made a meaningful impact toward restoring the natural ecosystem of the beach. The initiative reinforced VES’s commitment to environmental conservation, sustainability, and social responsibility.

Speaking about the initiative, Shri Rajesh Gehani, Secretary, VES, said, ‘At VES, we believe education goes beyond classrooms; it is about nurturing responsible citizens. The cleanup drive is not only about reviving our beaches but also about instilling in our students the values of environmental stewardship, responsible celebration, and active citizenship. We are proud of our NSS team and student volunteers for leading this impactful initiative.’

Spanning a legacy of over 50 years, VES has been at the forefront of academic excellence, value-based education, and impactful social outreach. Guided by its ethos of nurturing socially responsible citizens, VES continues to champion initiatives that raise awareness about the urgent need for cleaner beaches, responsible waste management, and ecological preservation.
