Empowerment for Underprivileged Women in Chennai through the collaboration of Rapido Auto and ANEW

 28 June, 2023:India’s Auto and Bike taxi platform, Rapido Auto recently partnered with ANEW (Association for Non-traditional Employment for Women) in Chennai. This objective of this collaboration was to generate employment opportunities for underprivileged women by encouraging them to become auto-rickshaw drivers on the Rapido platform and providing them autos for the same.

Representatives from Rapido Auto and ANEW were present at the official flag- off ceremony. This collaboration is being viewed as Rapido’s commitment of offering a platform to the marginalized women by empowering and uplifting them, so that they can earn a sustainable livelihood.

Providing innovative solutions and opportunities for individuals through unconventional employment options, has been an initiative of Rapido Auto since long. The partnership with ANEW an NGO is focussed on working towards supporting women who opt for non-traditional careers. The aim of Rapido Auto is to drive positive change and create a more inclusive society. Rapido is contemplating an expansion of this initiative across various cities.

This partnership will facilitate Rapido Auto to provide the extra training and licensing for underprivileged women that is needed for them to become auto-rickshaw drivers. The necessary tools and support needed to  navigate the Rapido platform effectively will be provided. This will also ensure a seamless experience for the women drivers as well as the women passengers.

Pawan Guntupalli Co- Founder Rapido Auto, while commenting on this partnership showed his enthusiasm, and said that at Rapido, they believed in the transformative power of opportunities. This partnership with ANEW, emphasized the commitment of empowering underprivileged women in Chennai and enabling them to achieve financial independence through the Rapido platform. He said that they were proud be associated with their journey towards self-reliance and looked forward to witnessing their success.

ANEW’s Management Committee member, Dr Anu Chandranbeen who has been associated since its inception, expressed her perception on the new alliance and said that ANEW was a dedicated driving platform and equipped to provide non-traditional career opportunities to women since 26 years. The beneficiaries are equipped with skills to facilitate their earning livelihoods.

 Head Operations, ANEW, Dr. Chitra A R said that the partnership would have a significant impact, as Rapido Auto would introduce lucrative prospects for underprivileged women with their offer of becoming a successful auto-rickshaw driver. This would also enable them to gain a strong foothold. Dr. Chitra went on to add that thus flexible and women friendly option of RAPIDO would have a significant impact.

This partnership also shows Rapido Auto’s dedication towards promoting social empowerment and gender equality. With this initiative, jointly they can transform the lives of many underprivileged women by encouraging them to gain financial independence and earn a sustainable income. Rapido Auto offers affordable and convenient transportation solutions with a user-friendly app and a good network of drivers.
