Pune: As part of its CSR commitment to inclusion and skill development, Henkel India inaugurated a new Skill Development Center at Navkshitij, Marunji. The project focuses on STEM education and skill development for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The center will support individuals aged 10 years and above and also includes a solar facility.

The center is equipped with machinery that gives students hands-on training in a range of practical skills. These include plate making, camphor making and incense stick making, as well as laundry and ironing using washing machines and ironing equipment. Different molds also allow students to learn how to make diyas and pots. Alongside STEM learning and life-skills development, this practical exposure is designed to enhance independence, build confidence, and help participants realize their full potential. The initiative addresses a critical need for continuous learning and skill development beyond traditional classroom education. It also helps participants engage in productive activities and strengthen their ability to participate more actively in society.

Speaking on the occasion, Nilesh R Adkar, Head Product development – General manufacturing & maintenance, Henkel Adhesive Technologies, IMEA, said “Every individual deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to society. Through our partnership with Navkshitij, we are creating a platform that nurtures skills, confidence, and self-reliance for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We hope this center will empower participants to explore their abilities, unlock new opportunities, and lead more fulfilling lives.”

In addition to vocational training, the newly developed hall will serve as a multifaceted space for cultural programs, creative activities, community gatherings, and group engagement sessions. The center aims to create an inclusive environment where participants can learn, collaborate, express themselves, and build meaningful social connections.

The inauguration took place in the presence of Henkel CSR committee member and Pune site head Dr. Prasad Khandagale; Regional managers Pradeepkumar Verma, Dr. Mihir Patel, Dr. Mayur Chaudhary and other Henkel employees. Navkshitij trustees, Mrs. Smita Shetty, Pandurang Alurkar, Balasaheb Wayal, Prathmesh Gad, students and other beneficiaries were present during this occasion.
