Alkem Foundation supports establishment of North Bihar’s largest radiotherapy centre in Muzaffarpur

17th September 2025: Alkem Foundation, a wholly-owned subsidiary and CSR arm of Alkem Laboratories Ltd. (“Alkem”), has supported the establishment of Samprada Singh Memorial Radiotherapy Centre in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, with an investment of INR 100 crores.

This radiotherapy centre, the largest one in North Bihar and the second-largest in the entire state, is part of Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre that was recently inaugurated by India’s Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

This state-of-the-art radiotherapy centre stands as a tribute to Alkem’s Founder and Chairman Emeritus Late Shri Samprada Singh. The centre has been set up in collaboration with the Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai (TMC), bringing together Alkem’s strong commitment to social investment in healthcare and TMC’s understanding and expertise in cancer care and research.

Technologically the most-advanced radiotherapy facility in Bihar and among the top three to four in eastern India, the centre is equipped with linear accelerators (LINAC), stereotaxy, organ motion management systems, CT simulator, and in-house brachytherapy with dedicated applicators. The centre, which has a capacity to treat approximately 3,500-4,000 cancer patients annually, aims to provide world-class treatment to patients in Bihar and adjoining regions. “Alkem has its roots in Bihar and it is deeply meaningful for us to contribute back to the region.

With cancer cases rising each year, the need for world-class facilities closer to home has never been greater. This centre will not only play a vital role in strengthening access to technologically advanced cancer treatment options but also help in easing the patient journey and supporting families, creating a holistic model of care. Our collaboration with Tata Memorial Centre reflects the shared goal of providing sustainable healthcare solutions that have a lasting impact,” said Madhurima Singh, Executive Director and Chairperson of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Committee, Alkem.

“Our partnership with Alkem Foundation builds on years of working together in screening and palliative care. With this centre, we are able to take that collaboration further by providing complete and compassionate cancer care to patients in Bihar and neighbouring states, bridging the longstanding gap in cancer treatment in these parts of India. Our aim is to offer ethical and affordable evidence-based treatment at the hospital as well as focus on education and research,” said Dr. Kumar Prabhash, Director, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Muzaffarpur.

This centre builds on Alkem Foundation’s ongoing cancer care initiatives, including community- based screening and awareness programmes and a home-based palliative care model launched with TMC in Bihar. Our endeavour remains on strengthening healthcare infrastructure and bridging critical treatment gaps in underserved areas.
