Partnership between Signify and Brahmaputra Volleyball League lights up community volleyball courts in Assam

Signify a well-known company in lighting for professionals and consumers and lighting for the Internet of Things, engaged in a partnership with BVL or the Brahmaputra Volleyball League to illuminate 20 community volleyball courts in rural Assam. Through this initiative the growth and adoption of volleyball among the rural communities in the state of Assam will be promoted. The Brahmaputra Volleyball League (BVL) was founded in 2020, by former captain of the Indian Volleyball Team – Abhijit Bhattacharya. It was amidst the COVID – 19 pandemic that it was started to nurture and inspire the youth in the state of Assam to discover and adopt volleyball as a professional sport. It gave the opportunity to 5000 children from all over Assam to play the sport. Since its inception it has grown to becoming one of the biggest community grassroots volleyball leagues in the world. This league is reckoned as an agent of positive change.

An unprecedented surge in participation was witnessed in 2022. More than 350 rural village teams participated. It was difficult to play beyond the daytime matches in the absence of proper lighting in the grounds. Signify recognized this potential and took the initiative of enhancing the sports infrastructure. It  illuminated 20 grassroots centers in the state. This was undertaken under its Khel Jyoti CSR program.

With the current advanced lighting solutions, the young players can practice under proper illumination levels that are mandated at the national level volleyball. Signify has taken a positive step towards nurturing future sportsmen of the country. More than 5000 athletes will be empowered through this process.

Head – CSR, Signify Innovations India Limited Natasha Wadhwa while commenting on this initiative mentioned that sports had the potential to unite people and also create and inspire lasting change. Not only the grounds but the future of thousands of athletes too would be made brighter she added.

The visionary behind BVL, Abhijit Bhattacharya was thankful to Signify in promoting sports in rural India through this initiative. This partnership he felt was a game changer for the youth and communities included in this. The lighting he said also enhances the safety apart from extending the playing hours.

Signify has expressed its commitment to the league with the decision of lighting up 10 more courts in this year.
