Renault Nissan Automotive India to upgrade infrastructure for eight local schools under its ‘Karpom Munneruvom’ CSR initiative

13 July, 2023:The ‘Karpom Munneruvom’ or the Learning for Progress CSR initiative by Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL) will see an investment of over INR 1.4 crores. For the Financial year 2023-24, this initiative has undertaken the upgrade of the infrastructure of eight schools in and around Oragadam. Over 2,400 students will benefit from this. In the Financial year 21 & 22 over 6000 students have benefitted from the school upgrade projects of RNAIPL. The classroom construction was inaugurated by the Nissan Global Chief HR Officer.

Classrooms and restrooms will be built between July and December 2023 and RO plants for drinking water will be set up. Inverters for uninterrupted power supply and CCTV cameras too will be set up. The “Namma School’’ initiative by the Tamil Nadu Government is being supported by RNAIPL. This government initiative is working towards enhancing the infrastructure of the state public school.

The infrastructure upgrade project of RNAIPL will cover eight schools in Nattarasampattu Orathur, Vadakkupattu, Umayalparenenchery Walajabad and  Gunduperumpedu.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the first two classrooms at the Government Higher Secondary School at Vadakkupattu village was led by Nissan Global Chief HR Officer, Toru Ihara, who was on a special visit to Chennai.


Frank Torres, President, Nissan India Operations Anish Baijal, Corporate Vice President, Nissan Global HR Strategy, Transformation and Regional Operations, and Keerthi Prakash, Managing Director, Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd were also present on the occasion.

Nissan Global Chief HR Officer, Toru Ihara, mentioned that at Nissan they believed in the transformative power of education in spurring economic growth by overcoming barriers. The children of today will be the ones who would create a fully sustainable society for tomorrow, not only in India but around the globe, he added. 

Managing Director, RNAIPL, Keerthi Prakash said that child education was a critical pillar of RNAIPL’s commitment to the sustainable and inclusive development of communities in Tamil Nadu. Their school programmes were aimed at nurturing better learning outcomes and also paving the path for local skill development. Thousands of children in and around the plant would be impacted by this programme.

Over 6,200 children have benefitted from the investment in infrastructure development projects of RNAIPL since 2021. Nine schools spread across Kanchipuram and Chennai districts have been covered by this. Community development projects in the health and environment sectors have also been the focus of RNAIPL.
