Signify all set to illuminate 10 Brahmaputra Volleyball League (BVL) grassroots courts in Assam

6th December, 2023: Signify (Euronext: LIGHT) has planned the illumination of 10 Brahmaputra Volleyball League (BVL) grassroot courts in Assam.  The inauguration ceremony which took place recently at the Community Volleyball Court BVL Barbari village center in Nalbari marked the commencement of the next phase of the project. Three distinguished visiting Olympic Gold Medalists Gilberto Amauri de Godoy Filho (Giba) from Brazil, Mireya Luis from Cuba, and Vladimir Grbic from Serbia were present at the inaugural ceremony.  With this initiative, Signify will accomplish the lighting up of more than 120 grassroots BVL courts.

Signify’s contribution will create a far-reaching impact, with the apex global body of volleyball, FIVB-The Federation Internationale de Volleyball, recognizing BVL (Community Volleyball League) as one of the world’s largest volleyball leagues.

A well-lit conducive environment for pursuing their passion for volleyball will be provided to 7000 children in the remote villages of Assam through this initiative. Signify recognizes the pivotal role of lighting in sports and therefore seeks to ensure a professional level of illumination for the BVL courts. These are at par with the national standards required for sporting events.

The high-quality lighting contributes to a safer and more enjoyable sports experience by enhancing the visibility.

Head of Marketing and CSR, Nikhil Gupta, expressed his excitement at this initiative and said that they were proud to be associated with a project that was helping the young talent in Assam to shine brightly by building this platform. The collaboration with FIVB and the presence of the legendary players would undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on the community and encourage future sportsmen in the country. The initiative he said, goes beyond just lighting up of courts to encouragement and the promotion of grassroot sports, by encouraging talent at the very foundation of sporting communities.

The founder of BVL and former captain of Indian Volleyball Team Abhijit Bhattacharya, was enthusiastic about the project and said that since Assam is situated in Northeast India, the sun sets early, due to which the players cannot extend their practice in the evening. He therefore, expressed his gratitude to Signify for illuminating the BVL courts, since the children could now practice in the evenings and the night hours and night tournaments too could now be organized.

The lighting was installed as per national volleyball standards, enhancing spectatorship and providing motivation to children regarding the scope of sports opportunities in India.
