India is producing more graduates than ever, yet nearly one in two struggles to find work. The gap is no longer access to education — it is access to relevant, industry-aligned skills, and to the confidence and networks that turn a degree into a career. For first-generation learners, that gap can decide a family’s future.
At FUEL, we have spent nineteen years closing it. Beginning as a small career-counselling effort in Maharashtra, we have grown into a movement that has touched over 12 lakh young lives, trained more than 2.9 lakh youth in future skills, and mobilised ₹248 crore in CSR across 18 states — every rupee tracked, every outcome audited.
But we learned something important along the way. Short-cycle programmes change individual lives; they do not, on their own, change systems. A skilling course can be paused, resized or relocated. A young person’s aspiration cannot. To create lasting change, skilling must graduate from intervention to institution.
That conviction has become FUEL SkillTech and Entrepreneurship University — gazetted under Maharashtra Act No. 23 of 2026, and India’s first fully CSR-funded SkillTech University. Over five years, it will offer 20,000 first-generation learners tuition-free, industry-aligned education across five schools, with placement built into every pathway.
This is where CSR must evolve. For a decade, corporate India has funded skilling as annual, project-based grants. A university asks partners to think differently — to fund not just a cohort, but the labs, chairs, scholarships and campuses that will serve cohort after cohort. It is a shift from sponsoring a project to building a legacy.
We have designed this partnership to be transparent and accountable. As one of the few non-profits listed on the SEBI Social Stock Exchange, we hold ourselves to the same disclosure standards as any listed company. Partners receive audited utilisation, SDG-mapped outcomes, and a diverse, workplace-ready talent pipeline in return.
Skilling India is not charity. It is nation-building, and it is the smartest long-term investment a responsible business can make. The gap that once defined my own youth need not define the next generation’s. Let us build institutions equal to their ambition.
