State-of-the-Art Women’s Urogynecology Department in Mumbai to Expand Equitable Access to Specialized Care

4th August 2025: CitiusTech, a leading provider of healthcare technology, services, and solutions, has collaborated with the Government of Maharashtra’s Cama & Albless Hospital to renovate the Department of Urogynecology at Cama & Albless Hospital and build a state-of-the-art center of excellence of international standards.

The Department marks a significant step forward in addressing women’s pelvic floor health in India’s public health system. A university-affiliated fellowship program has been approved by the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) at the Department of Urogynecology to train the next generation of specialists in the field. CitiusTech supported the initiative through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) partnership with Dr. Aparna Hegde and ARMMAN, underscoring the company’s commitment to advancing accessible, technology-enabled healthcare.

Punam Shejale, CISO and Head of CSR & Sustainability, CitiusTech, highlighted, “One-third of all Indian women experience urogynecology issues at some point in their lives, and these often go unchecked. By combining CitiusTech’s deep domain expertise with Dr. Tushar Palve and Dr. Aparna Hegde’s clinical and social vision, we are helping build a public health center that ensures equitable access to high-quality care for women from all walks of life.”

Dr. Tushar Palve, Vice Dean of Government Medical College, Medical Superintendent of Cama and Albless Hospital, said, “We are obliged that CitiusTech has partnered with Cama Hospital to create a state-of-the-art center that will serve the poorest of the poor. We hope more corporations follow this example.”

The two-storied center houses a worldclass outpatient department with six clinic rooms on the ground floor and a state-of-the-art diagnostics center on the first floor, with advanced equipment such as Video- Urodynamics, Bluetooth-enabled Uroflowmetry, 2D/3D Pelvic Floor Ultrasound, Endoanal Ultrasound, Anorectal Manometry, Fluro-defecography, Office Cystoscopy, Laser, and a Urostym Pelvic Floor Therapy Unit, making it one of the most advanced urogynecology centers in India.

“I returned from the U.S. with a vision to build a center of excellence that delivers world-class care to all, irrespective of socioeconomic background, with dignity and privacy at its core. The Department has top-tier diagnostics and equipment unavailable in most hospitals nationwide. This center is not just about best-in-class treatment; the dream is to develop a hub for cutting-edge research and advanced training.

Our goal is to develop a new generation of urogynecologists, trained to the highest standards, who will lead change across India,” said Dr. Aparna Hegde, Associate Professor (Hon), Department of Urogynecology, Cama & Albless Hospital and Founder, ARMMAN.

Manoj Balwani, Head – Admin, Procurement Immigration and Travel, CitiusTech, added, “ Among the many meaningful projects CitiusTech supports, this initiative uniquely reflects our broader commitment to go beyond technological innovation. We contributed not just funds, but also our design, technical, and procurement expertise to help create a world-class, sustainable healthcare environment. Through this, we aim to uplift lives and reinforce the values of care, dignity, and long-term impact, within and beyond the clinical setting.”

The first-of-its-kind Department of Urogynecology at Cama & Albless Hospital was conceptualized and established by Dr. Aparna Hegde, a renowned Urogynecologist and founder of NGO ARMMAN. In 2018, she signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Medical Education, Government of Maharashtra, to develop the department, which was approved by the Government in 2023. The center aims to address pelvic floor disorders, including pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, fistulas, dysfunctional voiding, perineal trauma, urinary tract infections, bladder pain syndrome, constipation, etc., conditions that affect nearly one in four Indian women but often go undiagnosed and untreated. Designed to prioritize privacy, empathy, and clinical excellence, the facility will also serve as a platform for world-class training and research in Urogynecology.

The center is a model of collaboration between government, healthcare providers, the private sector, and academia, offering a scalable framework for expanding equitable access to specialized women’s healthcare across India.
