Mumbai, India | June 1st, 2026: This Environment Day, Participatory Learning and Action Network (PLAN) Foundation in partnership with Nestlé India, through Project Hilldaari, continues to drive community-led waste management interventions across India’s tourist cities and eco-sensitive regions. This initiative brings together local governments, sanitation workers, and community influencers to encourage long-term behavioural change and strengthen sustainable waste management practices.
Till date, the project has diverted approximately 63,000+ MT of waste, professionalised 1,600+ waste workers, achieved approximately 78% source segregation, conducted 600+ clean-up drives, and 90+ health check-ups. These efforts reflect Project Hilldaari’s commitment towards building more resilient and inclusive communities.
To celebrate this Environment Day, Project Hilldaari will be conducting a series of community-focused initiatives across its locations in Shimla & Theog, Junagadh, Ponda, Palampur, Darjeeling, Mahabaleshwar, and Panchgani, with activities varying across locations. These efforts will include awareness sessions, clean-up and plantation drives, safety gear distribution for sanitation workers, and government scheme card distribution, reinforcing the importance of collective action towards sustainable waste management practices.
As waste-related challenges continue to evolve, Project Hilldaari remains focused towards building more resilient communities.
