Mumbai, India | June 1st, 2026 This Environment Day, Project Hilldaari Recommits to Driving Sustainable Waste Management Practices. This Environment Day, Participatory Learning and Action Network (PLAN) Foundation in partnership with Nestlé India, through Project Hilldaari, continues to drive community-led waste management interventions across India’s tourist cities and eco-sensitive regions. This initiative brings together local governments, sanitation workers, and community influencers to encourage long-term behavioural change and strengthen sustainable waste management practices. In the last year, the project has diverted approximately 12,700+ MT of waste, professionalized 1,300+ waste workers, and achieved approximately 79% source segregation. These efforts reflect Project Hilldaari’s commitment towards building more resilient and inclusive communities. To celebrate this Environment Day, Project Hilldaari will be conducting a series of community- focused initiatives across its locations in Junagadh, Ponda, Palampur, Darjeeling, Mahabaleshwar, and Panchgani, with activities varying across locations. This year we have also expanded and entered Shimla and Theog. These efforts will include awareness sessions, clean-up and plantation drives, safety gear distribution for sanitation workers, and government scheme card distribution, reinforcing the importance of collective action towards sustainable waste management practices. As waste-related challenges continue to evolve, Project Hilldaari remains focused towards building more resilient communities.
