To empower young innovators Literacy India Hosts the National Science Day Event

28th February 2024: A non-profit dedicated to quality education and empowerment in underprivileged communities, Literacy India, celebrated National Science Day with an event that not only showcased the creativity and innovation of young innovators through robotics and IoT projects but also highlighted the organization’s cumulative achievements.

With the theme ‘Empowering Through Science,’ the event provided a platform for children to demonstrate their technical skills and creativity. 29 students from underprivileged backgrounds displayed exceptional dedication and innovation, having completed intensive training that developed both their hard and soft skills. This training is crucial for their overall growth, emphasizing Literacy India’s commitment to nurturing the potential of each child.

Dr. Rajneesh Wadhwa, Director of Strategic Partnerships and Development at Literacy India, emphasized the importance of the event: “Empowering innovation with empathy and collaboration, our initiatives strive to transform lives and unlock the potential of the underprivileged. Together, we’re not merely educating; we’re crafting a world brimming with opportunities and dreams.”

One of the many success stories is that of Dheeraj, a 13-year-old participant whose journey from visiting ISRO to developing an “Anti-Collision System” project exemplifies the transformative effect of Literacy India’s programs. Along with his story, we received over 500 entries from students, which were screened extensively by experts and faculty members, out of which 24 were shortlisted for the program. This showcases the organization’s significant impact on empowering young minds in STEM fields.

Victor Ghoshe, Writer, Lecturer, and Development Strategy Specialist, stated, “Design thinking is not just about solving problems; it’s about transforming perspectives, opening minds, and unlocking limitless potential. I thank Literacy India for initiating this unique design Thinking Program for young adults for the first time in India and for inviting me to design and develop the 6-month-long program and facilitate all the sessions in Hindi.

I salute the spirit of Literacy India with a special mention of Capt. Indrani Singh (Managing Trustee) for all the support and for her progressive approach towards the participants who come from underprivileged communities. I believe innovation begins with empathy, flourishes through collaboration, and leaves an indelible mark on the world.”

The event not only celebrated current achievements but also set the stage for future endeavors. Several of these projects/concepts/prototypes will be submitted for against several Project Development Grants under guidance from former experts from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) – a part of the Ministry of Science and Technology. These are being developed to further support these young innovators, ensuring that the journey toward science and technology exploration continues.

Anay Pathak, Global Account Executive | Alliances | WW GSI Partnership, Dell Technologies, said, “At Literacy India, I saw incredible potential within each child. The work is not just about education; it’s about giving them the tools and support to express their creativity and achieve their dreams. Witnessing their projects reminds me of the power of opportunity and mentorship. It’s a reflection of my belief that every child, given the chance, can overcome obstacles and thrive.”

Hemant Kumar Gupta, Former Director, of Technology Development Fund, DRDO, Govt. of India, added, “Inspired by their newfound knowledge, the students eagerly presented how the solutions they showcased could be applied to solve other pressing issues. Their enthusiasm to learn and innovate was noteworthy.”

Literacy India extends its gratitude to partners, sponsors, and volunteers, whose invaluable support contributed to the event’s success. Their commitment to fostering educational and innovative opportunities in underprivileged communities is commendable.

As we celebrate these achievements and look to the future, Literacy India invites the community to support our mission of transforming lives through education. By volunteering, partnering, or spreading the word, you can make a meaningful difference.
